The European Ecolabel turns 30

Launched in 1992, the European Ecolabel celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. For the occasion, the federal Public Health department wanted to highlight the companies that have contributed to its development in Belgium.

Among the 35 Belgian certificate holders, 4 were rewarded in one of the following categories:

  • Longest EU Ecolabel holder for products
  • Longest EU Ecolabel holder for services
  • The holder with the most licences

Pollet awarded as a pioneer

Pollet has been awarded the title of the oldest European Ecolabel holder still active in Belgium. Indeed, as a pioneer in ecological products, our company obtained its first Ecolabel in 2007. Since then, many of our products have obtained ecological certificates such as Ecocert, Ecologo or Green Seal. Today, our PolGreen ecological product line includes 15 EU Ecolabel certified products.

The awards were presented by the Belgian European Eco-label committee, chaired by Frédérick Warzée, Head of Communication and Sustainability at the industry association DETIC.

Several speakers, including the Federal Minister for the Environment Zakia Khattabi, also took the floor to discuss the future of the ecological certificate and the evolution of sustainable consumption.

A recognised certificate

The European Ecolabel aims to promote the sale of sustainable products and services. The Ecolabel flower also aims to make it easier for consumers to access sustainable solutions through its recognisable logo.

In addition, the strict criteria of the certificate offer consumers the guarantee of buying quality products while respecting the environment.

In total, the EU Ecolabel is present on more than 89,000 products and services. It can be found on many products, including detergents.

The European Ecolabel is recognised by all EU countries as well as Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
